The Cemetery Commission is responsible for the care and management of the five Woodbury cemeteries owned by the town:
• Buck Lake (also known as Ainsworth)
• South Woodbury
• Woodbury-Cabot Road (also known as Harvey)
• Woodbury Center
• West Woodbury
The Cemetery Commission’s members are elected at Town Meeting for staggered five-year terms.
Persons interested in purchasing plots should contact the Sexton who will assist them. He will provide a copy of the cemetery Rules and Regulations and information about how to select and purchase a plot. The sexton is also the person to contact for burial-related activities and specifications for memorial headstones.
Green burial plots at the South Woodbury Cemetery are now available. Green burial is a way for caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources and reduction of carbon emissions. Green burials do not require a concrete vault, a body to be embalmed, or a casket. Bodies may simply be placed in a shroud or a biodegradable casket or container.
